Tim Black, Ph.D., director of CSR and Associate Professor of Sociology at the University of Hartford. His research focuses on poverty, race/ethnicity, social welfare, and human service program development and assessment. He has studied home visitation programs to strengthen vulnerable families for 12 years as well as fatherhood initiative programs. He is currently completing a book entitled, When a Heart Turns Rock Solid: How Jobs and Prison Shaped a Generation of Puerto Rican Men, based upon a 18-year ethnographic study of marginalized Puerto Rican men. Marcia Hughes, Ph.D., assistant director, is primarily responsible for the design and management of research and evaluation projects. She received her Ph.D. in human development and family studies, an M.S. in the behavioral sciences, and a B.A. in psychology. Marcia has been providing program development and evaluation services to nonprofit organizations, state agencies, and school systems for over fifteen years, and takes particular satisfaction in contributing to collaborative, multilevel, and interdisciplinary efforts. She has a range of program and research interests that include child welfare and primary prevention, youth development and transition to adulthood, family and community outreach, family-school relations, mentoring programs, and closing the achievement gap, and the cultural aspects (in a broad sense) of development. Meredith Damboise, project manager at the CSR, has been working at the CSR for 11 years. She is currently overseeing the evaluations of the Nurturing Families Network, Help Me Grow, and Family/School Connection programs. Madelyn Figueroa, senior database manager, is responsible for the data of the statewide sites and the New Haven expansion. Sagacity Walker, field researcher, is a recent graduate of the University of Hartford’s Hartt School of Music, Dance and Theatre. After graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Performing Arts Management, Sagacity sought avenues to bridge his passion for music with community activism; he has volunteered and worked in several Hartford-based after school initiatives utilizing art as a tool for social change. In 2007 Sagacity began working for the Center for Social Research full time. He is currently gathering and analyzing data from Fatherhood Initiative Programs as well as information concerning non-custodial fathers.
